This page is part of The Phrontistery, a site dedicated to the love and study of obscure and unusual words, including the 17000+-word dictionary of rare words, the International House of Logorrhea and the Compendium of Lost Words. While doing so is not a good way to enhance your vocabulary, it is an excellent way to improve your play. Knowing which words are acceptable - even if you have no idea of their definitions - is a perfectly legitimate strategy, and all expert players have memorized all the two-letter words and often the three-letter words as well. Be sure to know which version you're playing! If you've reached this page, you probably already recognize the importance of these words for success in winning at Scrabble, especially the two-letter words. I have included the TWL (Tournament Word List), a standard North American list which is used by a lot of online Scrabble-type sites, followed by the more extensive international SOWPODS list. Here is an example of permute. Here are all the two-letter words and three-letter words that are acceptable for use in Scrabble(R). I did use ShellCheck already.ĮDIT: The text file that is generated by the main script includes all permutations (no repeats) of the letters provided in the command line argument with a hard return between each permutation, and I am pretty sure that the hard return character is what is generating the error.

I think that the error is occurring because a special character is showing up at the end of the character array that can't be compared to "?", but I don't know how to deal with that. I'm using i to run through the alphabet and essentially setting each "?" to $i for each letter in the alphabet.

This is the script that will run if there are any "?" characters in the command line argument of the main script.
